 Ask your friends, relatives and neighbors about the recommendations of the contractors who have worked for them. Try connecting with your local home builder association for the recommendations.

 Shortlist at least 3 companies and ask them to provide you with the complete estimation. It also involves verifying if they are the members of the Master Builders Association or not.

Step: 3

 Ask your deck builder to provide you with the reference of the projects they have done before. Ask their previous clients if the project was completed on budget and on-time.

Step: 4

•  Check whether the deck builder is registered and licensed 
• Ensure that the contractor has business liability
• Ensure that the builder has worker compensation coverage 
• Make certain that the contractor’s written warranty specifies what is covered and for how long.

Step: 5 

 Ensure that the building permit is obtained by the contractor. This automatically ensures that the local building codes are compiled and a local building inspector will visit at required intervals to check on the progress and quality of the deck’s construction.
